Objectives

    - Define the terms pandemic and preparedness; - Describe how pandemic influenza emerges and spreads; - Describe key steps in developing a local preparedness and response plan; - Describe principles of effective communication during a pandemic; - Identify preparedness and response strategies for specific community sectors; - Identify additional resources to support local preparedness and response efforts.

    This introduction module presents information about pandemic influenza:
    what is a pandemic, what we can do, who needs to prepare, what are the goals of pandemic preparedness and what is involved in pandemic preparedness. This is an online course designed to help community leaders build the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for and respond to pandemic (H1N1) 2009. A course for local leaders in the following settings:
    schools, health services, workplaces, municipalities, faith and community organizations.
