Al finalizar esta unidad didáctica, el alumno será capaz de: - Comprender los tipos de comunicación; - Identificar las diferencias de los flujos de comunicación; - Desarrollar procesos comunicacionales adecuados a los diferentes flujos.

Identificar los aspectos básicos que exigen afrontar el reto de decidir qué información hacer pública y qué información se retiene en relación con un evento de salud pública.

- Valorar la importancia de que la comunicación de riesgo sea integrada a los procesos de planificación y respuesta de estrategias nacionales de gestión del riesgo. - Identificar los fundamentos conceptuales y teóricos sobre la percepción del riesgo y su aplicabilidad en la respuesta ante una emergencia de salud pública. - Conocer los aspectos básicos que fortalecen la coordinación interna e interinstitucional para responder adecuadamente a una emergencia sanitaria.

- Identificar los aspectos básicos para la comunicación efectiva con el público y con los medios de comunicación durante emergencias sanitarias. - Reconocer la relación entre "escuchar activamente" a la población y una "respuesta efectiva" a sus inquietudes, opiniones y/o preocupaciones. - Identificar las herramientas disponibles que pueden ser utilizadas para una comunicación efectiva con el público y los medios de comunicación.

Integrar la comunicación de riesgo en el proceso de planificación y respuesta a eventos de salud pública.

- Understand the need to integrate risk communication into the planning process of national risk management and emergency response strategies. - Understand the conceptual and theoretical foundations of risk perception and their applicability during a response to a public health emergency. - Learn basic principles for strengthening internal and inter-agency communication coordination during a public health emergency response.

- Introduce basic concepts about effective communication with the public and the media during public health emergencies. - Demonstrate how "listening" to the public helps the authorities develop responses that effectively address public concerns. - Identify tools for effective communication with the public and the media.

Integrate risk communication into the public health emergency planning and response processes.

Upon completion of this lesson, you will be able to describe the crucial steps that have been made by PAHO and WHO in the area of human rights; and identify the current obstacles in the Americas and PAHO’s strategies for overcoming them. You will also be able to describe the new trends that are strengthening health as a human right in the Americas. Upon completion of this lesson, you will be able to define the terms public health, health, and human rights; and understand the relationships between health and human rights. You will also be able to recognize the most critical human rights instruments that promote and protect the right to health and other related human rights; recognize the differences between binding and non-binding human rights instruments; and identify the international guidelines on the limitations of human rights.
