Addressing long-term stays in hospital for people with mental health and addictions concerns
Ano de publicação: 2016
As of last year, nearly two million Ontarians saw their
family physicians for mental health and addictions
concerns. These two conditions account for
approximately 10% of the disease burden in Ontario.(1)
Psychiatric alternate level of care (ALC) days and longstay days represent a significant portion of all inpatient
resources. Approximately 40% of patients with complex
mental health and addictions concerns currently in tertiary
care could be treated in the community.(2) Ontario
continues to face challenges in planning for and providing
community-based mental health and addictions services
and other support services that meet the needs of patients
with mental health and addictions concerns.
